How To: Straight Golden Midi Skirt with Side Slit

I enjoy sparkle in everyday wear much more than gowns. When I started cutting this fabric I specifically checked it didn't shed glitter - only a tiny bit, which I was willing to live with. Turned out that was 100% misleading - the night I wore this I covered about half of Dubai in glitter. If someone has a trick that can help set glitter fabric and have it shed less, hook me up.

Tutorials take a lot of time & effort to create, and I choose to make mine available for free. If you enjoy this guide, you can support me with a donation that feels right for you, here.

TOOLS:
Sparkly fabric with a bit of stretch, 1 m  |  Scissors  |  Pins  Invisible zipper  |  Thread & Sewing machine  |  Not pictured: elastic for the waistline

I. Cut two identical pieces. Measurements good for a EU36/US4, with slightly stretchy fabric.
II. First I pinned my invisible zipper..
,, and sewed it + did the side seams. The side with no zipper I only sewed about 40 cm down from the waistline to leave the rest open for the slit.
III. To finish the waistline, I tried the skirt on, needed to take just a bit in from the side with no zipper. Then hand-sewed a double fold along the waistline, and inserted a narrow elastic in the casing, which I sewed put at both ends to make the waistline a bit firmer.
IV. The side slit I also finished by hand with a double fold.
I had cut the skirt so the hem was the factory finished edge, so didn't need to hem it.
I'm serious about the advice on making less glitter fall off. I know of the hairspray trick but there must be something better out there..??
xo,

Julia
